To all my fellow geeks: Happy Star Wars Day!
Please leave any blaster rifles, lightsabres and droids outside and take a seat in my cantina! No smuggling plans are to be discussed here, nor arms to be chopped off. Here's a glass of special blue milk and a healthy portion of Mantell Mix - it's on the house :)
Mantell Mix are the popcorn-like candies the clones of Clone Force 99 are seen consuming regularly in the Star Wars: The Bad Batch TV show. The Disney parks sell Outpost Mix, which seems to also be based on Mantell Mix. Where Disney's and my version appear to differ however, is that I use coloured caramel, whereas Outpost Mix seems to just be dyed popcorn, but I can't be sure about that!
This was obviously not really much of a serious recipe, but I figured I might as well post it as there strangely aren't many nice recipes online for this kind of popcorn.
Anyways, may the Force be with you!
Always.
Ingredients
100 g popcorn kernels
Food colouring, to taste
120 g sugar
15 ml water
60 g butter
2 g salt
Instructions
Pop the corn using whatever method you prefer.
Combine sugar with food colouring until you reach the desired colour (I made three separate batches: green, red and gold). Heat the coloured sugar and water in a saucepan without stirring until it reaches 118°C. Add the butter and stir well to combine.
Add the popcorn to the caramel, toss and let cool down. Break apart chunks.
Notes
Keep in mind that you don't need much food colouring as the caramel will darken the eventual colour substantially.
